No Dial Tone / Static on the Line

You pick up a line to call
out on only to hear static on the other end or worse no dial
tone at all. Before you call out a phone technician
you might want to try some preliminary troubleshooting on your
own. Its easy to do and can save you money.
First you need to determine
if the problem is with the phone itself, the phone jack that
its plugged into or with your phone service.
Begin by picking up the line
that is giving you trouble from other phones in your
office. If you experience the same issue on these
phones as well the problem is most likely with your phone
service. Call your service provider and ask them to do
a remote check for you. If however the line is working
fine on the other phones the problem is either with the
phone itself or the phone jack that its plugged into. To determine which simply unplug the phone from its jack and
replace it with another phone that you know to be working. If the phone that was previously working fine is still
working you can determine that the problem is coming from
the phone itself and will most likely need to be replaced. If however
you experience the same problem with both of the phones you
can determine that the problem is with the phone jack.
